Benue Flood: Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Arrives Markudi For On-The-Spot Assessmen (Pics)

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has arrived Makurdi, the Benue state capital for an on-the-spot assessment of the recent flood that ravaged parts of the state.

Osinbajo's visit was earlier announced in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Samuel Ortom, Terver Akase, on Wednesday, September 6.
According to the statement, Osinbajo during his trip will visit IDP camps, meet with influential traditional ruler; Tor Tiv and attend a small reception organised by the state government.

Many were hopeful that Osinbajo will bring a message of relief from the nation's capital, Abuja as there are complains of inadequate provisions in IDP camps.
Meanwhile, the Child Protection Network (CPN) and the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), have said three persons died in the recent flooding in the state, while 110 000 survivors risked contracting diseases.
“There were three deaths, two adults and one child. At the government approved IDP Camp, up to 4 families are reported to be accommodated in one room.

“This suggests the possible risk of an epidemic as some hospitals in affected locations are reported to have shut down due to the flood,” a statement sent to journalists said.
